Techenomics Mongolia still going strong in its 14th year of operation
Oyu Tolgoi copper-gold mine remains a long-term client
Mongolia is an important cog in the global network of Techenomics International and this year Techenomics Mongolia is in its 14th year of operation.
The company operates an office and laboratory complex in the centre of Ulaanbaatar, the capital city of Mongolia, providing oil analysis, foam testing of hydraulic and gear oils, fuel, water coolant, grease and transformer oil analysis, transformer oil purifying services and magnetic plug inspections.
The operations opened on October 11, 2012, after the company attended a mining conference and expo and could see the opportunities that existed in the country’s emerging mining industry, and “the rest they say is history”, according to CEO Chris Adsett.
“From day one our dedicated and fully trained Mongolia team has offered a quick turnaround for the analysis of used and virgin lubricants, grease, coolants and fuel to predict maintenance issues before they arise.
“This reduces the carbon footprint by improved utilisation which reduces maintenance costs and improves equipment productivity.”
Important developments for Techenomics Mongolia since opening include winning a contract with Oyu Tolgoi copper-gold mine in September 2013 and gaining ISO 17025 accreditation for the laboratory in 2015, the first time a laboratory in Mongolia achieved this standard, which ensures clients always receive accurate, state-of-the-art analysis of their oil samples.
At the time of the accreditation, Chris Adsett said: “As an independent operator we take great pride at Techenomics in working with Mongolian and international accreditation agencies to ensure our accuracy and attention to detail. The international ISO cross checking program is vital in maintaining our quality standards at all of our operations.”
Almost 13 years after winning the Oyu Tolgoi contract, Techenomics is still serving the massive operation, which began as an open pit and has now converted to full underground operations.
“As the country’s largest copper-gold mine and one of the biggest in the world, we are proud to still be working with a world-class operation, helping the mine get the best from its lubricants,” Adsett said.
