Clean fluids vital for equipment health, says Techenomics

Just as frequent washing of your hands and regular showers or baths play a key role in keeping human bodies clean and free of germs and bacteria, having clean fluids and lubricants is vital in maintaining good engine and component health.

After all, who can afford to have dirty or contaminated fluids put a dampener on productivity through increased maintenance times and costs, and heaven-help even component or equipment breakdown.

This is where Techenomics comes to the party to ensure fluids and lubricants are kept as clean as possible while also advising operators on issues that lead to dirt or contamination.

More than half of the issues caused by lubrication breakdown and failure can be traced to dirty or contaminated fluids, according to Techenomics CEO Chris Adsett.

“Due to the complexity and cost of modern capital equipment, it is vital for companies to ensure that fuels and lubricants used in their operations are clean,” he said.

The Techenomics team has extensive knowledge of the design and implementation of contamination control systems and using state-of-the-art equipment in laboratories in Australia, Asia and Africa can diagnose lubricant issues.

The company’s contamination control assessment process starts with comprehensive audits to find any cause of dirt or water ingress, design faults, incorrect procedures and handling and storage methods that can all contribute to unnecessarily high uncleanliness readings.

Techenomics then proceeds with an appropriate plan and method of achieving a cleanliness level of 15/13, dependent on the lubricant type and use.

The company may recommend changing or placement of delivery points to bulk tanks, pipe fittings, breather replacements, pump replacements, filters, dispensing methods and fittings, and inline filtration systems right down to waste removal.

“Our filtration services assist companies with the design and installation of a range of fuel and oil filtration solutions,” Adsett said.

“Cleanliness can prevent or reduce component failure, reduce downtime and minimise the cost of repairs.

“Our contamination control audits are used to develop and implement operational practices for delivering clean fuels and oils to production processes, as well as provide an environmentally friendly workplace.

“These audits are part of a comprehensive condition monitoring service that enables us to predict maintenance issues before they arise,” he added.
