Unique Liquid Tungsten product maximises lubricant properties

The revolutionary designed, nano fullerene-like particles are uniquely formulated to prevent friction
The primary aim of Techenomics from day one of operations more than 30 years ago has always been to assist clients to gain greater reliability rates for their engines and mechanical equipment by maximising lubricant effectiveness and thereby minimising wear.

By their very nature lubricants are designed to enable metal parts to function efficiently and productively and Techenomics fluid analysis management service is directed at ensuring optimum benefit from lubricants.

In the ongoing quest to assist clients to gain greater reliability rates by minimising wear, Techenomics came across the Liquid Tungsten product developed by NIS and has determined that the product really does produce the goods.

Liquid Tungsten is now an important component of Techenomics’ total fluid management services, including oil analysis, with the company being the proud distributor of the products in Australia and exclusively to the mining industry globally.

Liquid Tungsten has been formulated by NIS with the nano fullerene-like particles designed to prevent friction on metal contact surfaces. It is much more efficient than other metal-based additives owing to the hardness and malleability of tungsten, which is the second hardest element after diamond.

On the Mohs scale of hardness tungsten is rated at around 9 with diamonds at 10 and it has the highest melting point of all metals. Tungsten retains its hardness at high temperatures and under pressure and also is malleable enough to be worked easily.

NIS has taken this science and the unique properties of tungsten to create Liquid Tungsten. The tungsten nano-spheres handle extreme temperature conditions from -270°C to 450°C, shock loads in excess of 5,000,000 PSI and pressure resistance of more than 4,000,000 PSI.

Under contact pressure, shock or shear layers of Liquid Tungsten are exfoliated, thus creating a smooth, extremely strong and durable protective layer on metal surfaces.

In doing so Liquid Tungsten:

  • Reduces metal to metal contact;
  • Generates less heat during operation;
  • Prolongs oil life;
  • Increases oil drain intervals;
  • Lowers maintenance which means less downtime;
  • More efficient use of energy;
  • Improves fuel consumption; and
  • Lowers emissions.

The unique product can handle the most extreme conditions whilst providing the above benefits to users which in turn result in reduced operating costs and improved productivity.

Techenomics’ ongoing laboratory trials and in-field tests in a range of operating conditions around the world continue to demonstrate that Liquid Tungsten lives up to the hype and provides a considerable value-add to the company’s lubricant services.

“By reducing engine and component deterioration due to the build-up of deleterious metals, especially iron, through the use of Liquid Tungsten in conjunction with our fluid management services, we increase component life and reduce breakdowns,” said Techenomics CEO Chris Adsett.
