Erna has played strong role in development of business in Indonesia

Techenomics comes to the PilbaraSangatta lab manager has been with PT Tekenomiks since business began
Erna Wahyuningsi is one of many women in Techenomics who play key roles in maintaining the company’s position as an innovative and industry-leading independent global provider of total fluid management solutions.

As lab manager at the busy Sangatta operations in a prominent mining, transport and industrial area of Indonesia’s Kalimantan, Erna uses her experience, technical and chemistry skills, team approach, dedication to the company and administrative ability to ensure the lab fulfils all the roles expected of a lubricant analysis operation.

This ensures clients in the Sangatta area receive first-class service and effective and efficient lubricant analysis so that they can predict maintenance issues before they impact productivity.

Erna has been with Techenomics since the company began in Indonesia more than 23 years ago, starting as a lab analyst, then becoming a supervisor and now manager, and CEO Chris Adsett says she is integral to the current Indonesian operations.

She says an important part of her role is gaining the trust of clients and then maintaining the trust so that they are always happy. “If we can give satisfaction to our customers, the cooperative relationship will continue. We are always working hard to make sure PT Tekenomiks (PTTI) is of value to customers.

Erna said that as a leader, it was important to understand the character of each staff member. “I don’t think of myself as being superior and the staff as subordinates but rather we are a team and each of us has a sense of responsibility for the work we do.

“We must be disciplined, honest and always be trustworthy in all our actions while we should not delay our work – if there is time or an opportunity, the work should be done now.”

Erna says communication is an important aspect of an effective operation and if there was an issue or problem it should be resolved immediately. “I encourage staff to come forward and become confident and this gives them a sense of responsibility.”

The Sangatta lab manager has seen the business in Indonesia grow from around 30 samples a month almost 24 years ago to around 30,000 a month these days and said that employee dedication and loyalty were important. “Being grateful for what we have achieved, being part of the growth story and providing value for PTTI customers are important to me, and I believe are also important for the staff I work with.”

Erna said that PTTI had a solid and dedicated team and this served as a magnet to attract newcomers as well as a drawcard for customers. “Business competition is increasing, so it is a challenge for us to continue to improve the performance and skills of our teams.

“To help with this, those in leadership positions must always make sure that employees are our strongest foundation.”

She added: “Women are multi-talented and provide many advantages for Techenomics, including creating a more comfortable work environment. Women tend to be more expressive – we are better able to express what we feel.”
