Keep engines running with a simple test

Road transport operators depend upon the reliability of their vehicles and engines are the most important components in ensuring efficient, prompt and safe deliveries. Simple fuel and water leaks can quickly cause engine problems which hinder productivity and can lead to engine failure.

An innovative, simple, easy-to-access and inexpensive sump screening test developed by leading independent condition monitoring experts Techenomics ensures leaks are identified early and fixed before they cause unscheduled downtime and loss of productivity.

The sump screening test can be used for any road transport vehicle and can identify fuel dilution, coolant leaks and the presence of iron and or copper in engines.

Techenomics’ CEO Chris Adsett says the simple test enables operators to detect issues before they result in major problems. “If these problems aren’t identified early and fixed straight away complete engine failure can occur, thereby increasing unscheduled downtime and causing loss of valuable work and money while engines are fixed or totally replaced.

“A Techenomics’ sump screening test can identify problems before engine failure occurs, extending the life of equipment, preventing maintenance costs. The test can also identify which vehicle in a fleet is the next one needing an overhaul,” he says.

Techenomics’ Australia operations manager Sam Kurup says OEMs recommend a time or mileage figure for maintenance or overhaul of equipment based on a nominal figure of when some machines or engines start to fail. However, every piece of equipment is different, operates in different conditions and has a different life span.

“A sump screening test determines when an engine is due for maintenance or overhaul, thereby more accurately predicting problems and ensuring better running time from engines and equipment.”

Sump screening tests can benefit a range of road transport situations, including fleet operators, transport companies, bus fleets, light fleet operators, taxi companies and large car servicing franchises.

Sam Kurup says Techenomics also has the capability and expertise to carry our more advanced and detailed testing if a sump screening test returns a ‘fail’ result. “A truck or bus engine operating in a dusty situation or on gravel roads can suffer major problems if a hole develops in the air intake allowing unfiltered air into the engine and this is much more likely to occur in these environments.

Chris Adsett says sump screening tests and subsequent more in-depth testing carried out by Techenomics’ qualified experts can help identify to root cause of many engine problems, ensuring potential future damage is contained and controlled.

Techenomics has distributed specialty lubricants and offered independent, innovative oil analysis and condition monitoring services throughout Australia and Indonesia for more than 20 years with the business steadily growing into other parts of the world.

Today, Techenomics focuses on its Total Fluid Management Services (TFMS), operating ISO 9001 accredited laboratories and consulting services. These laboratories conduct lubricant analysis on oils and greases as well as analysis of wear debris. TFMS is operated by site-based teams who establish and maintain condition monitoring programs, and manage the total lubricant cycle on-site at client facilities.
