Tests confirm benefits of WS2 nano additives

The ability of NanoLub tungsten disulphide (WS2) additives to enhance the performance of oil continues to be supported by independent testing carried out by Techenomics.

The WS2 additives have been developed by US-based company NIS and Techenomics is distributing the product throughout its network.

Over the past 12 months Techenomics has been conducting a series of Timken tests on various oils at its accredited laboratories with positive results returned.

Techenomics CEO Chris Adsett says the ongoing tests of various oils used in a range of operating conditions have demonstrated an increase in operating times and a reduction of wear.

The most recent testing has been carried out in Indonesia on Spirax S2A 85w/140 gear oil, Shell Rimula SR50 gear oil, Meditrans 15w/40 engine oil, Shell Rimula 15w/40 engine oil,  Rored 85w/140 gear oil and BP Vanellus C7 engine oil. All tests were constant with the only variation being the amount of WS2 added to the oil.

The average time to failure using the Timken test for the Spirax S2A 85w/140 oil increased 48% using 2% NanoLub, 74% using 3% and 100% using 5%. For Shell Rimula SR50 the time to failure increased 27% for 2% WS2, 21% for 3% and 39% for 5%.

There were two tests for the Meditrans 15w/40 from different sites with the first showing no improvement in time to failure with the addition of 2% WS2, 33.5% improvement for 3% and 87% improvement for 5%. The second test showed a 26% improvement using 2%, 72% with 3% and 155% with 5%.

The Shell Rimula 15w/40 achieved a 25% improvement with the addition of 2% WS2, 44% with 3% and 30% with 5% while for the Rored 85w/140 the time to failure using 2% improved 14%, using 3% improved 105% and 5% improved 143%.

There was a 112% improvement in time to failure using 2% WS2 with the BP Vanellus C7, the 3% rate improved by 126% and the 5% rate by 166%.

“The results confirm that the NanoLub additives boost the performance of oil, thereby leading to a reduction in maintenance costs and increased productivity for engine operators,” Chris Adsett says.

“We will continue to carry out the testing to ensure that our clients are receiving maximum benefit from their lubricants.

“As an independent provider of fluid management services, we are dedicated to serving our customers and enabling them to obtain the best performance possible from lubricants. The WS2 additives complement and enhance the services we provide, and therefore also empower our clients,” he says.
