Techenomics Mongolia saves Power Plant thousands of litres of transformer oil and helps the environment
Techenomics Mongolia has successfully completed filtering Transformer Oil for Thermal Power Plant 4, the leading energy supplier in Mongolia, financially saving the company thousands of litres of transformer and turbine oil, enabling positive environmental outcomes.
Power Plant 4, which generates over 71 % of electricity for Central Region and 63 % of heat for Capital city Ulaanbaatar consumption, asked Techenomics Mongolia to complete a Transformer Oil project that involved filtering 20000L of Oil in a 1T Transformer and 14000 L of Turbine Oil.
The filtrations were successful with Techenomics Mongolia able to extend the life of both transformer and turbine oil by removing contaminants, such as dissolved gases, water and particle matter. According to Techenomics International’s CEO, Chris Adsett, “This work was an opportunity for us to demonstrate the effectiveness of our services and the successful completion of this project is a major achievement for the Techenomics Mongolia Team.”
The successful completion of the two day filtration project will have major financial benefits for Power Plant 4 potentially saving them hundreds of thousands of dollars in new oil purchasing costs, identifying minor problems before they become major failures and allowing them to plan future maintenance/monitoring of the transformers.
The project also has positive environmental implications for Power Plant 4. Waste oil and toxic waste now doesn’t need to be dumped and less oil and waste is introduced into the system reducing the environmental footprint.
According to Mr.Galbadrakh, Head of Research and Development Department at Thermal Power Plant 4, “We are very happy that Techenomics Mongolia has started to provide this effective service to our Power Plant. Filtering the Oil has helped us improve the quality of our oil and remove water, gazes and particles in the Transformer oil which are very toxic for nature.
Techenomics services will definitely help reduce harmful waste oil, provide opportunity for us to use the oil again and save us a lot of money in changing oil. “
Techenomics hope to work with Power Plant 4 again in the near future.
“With eleven more transformers that may need filtration, we hope to work more with Power Plant 4 in the future and even provide this service to other power generators in Mongolia.” Says Mr Adsett.
