Breathers are an important function of any gearbox. They allow heat to escape and cooling air to enter the system, preventing unnecessary overheating issues. Gearboxes that do face overheating issues will cause other problems to occur, such as an increase in viscosity, a higher viscosity will cause accelerated wear by losing its ability to lubricate the internal gears, shafts and bearings.
Breathers face their own problems such as splash back of oil, outside air moisture and dirt ingress that can all lead to clogging of the filter. A clogged breather causes internal gearbox pressure to build up until it escapes through oil seals; this allows outside dust and contaminants to enter the system, again producing unnecessary wear.
Techenomics have designed a Filter Barrel that eliminates the current breather issues, simply by installing a Filter Barrel; it stops the clogging of the breather by enabling the breather to preform its job as it was designed to. The Filter Barrels stop oil splashback from travelling back up the system and reaching the breather, this helps the breather draw in and out air as required, controlling the temperature and allowing smooth airflow. The Filter Barrel not only helps the breather preform its duties, it stops the pressure build-up in the system, therefore stopping the seals from blowing out, it stops the temperature rise of the oil, allowing the oil to lubricate the internal components.
