What is OGL and what does it do?

OGL is an open gear lubricant; a premium, lithium, soap-thickened lube designed to provide protection for open gears, bushings, rollers and rails, and dipper stick handles. This lubricant is also suitable for use on wire ropes.

What is Advantage and what does it do?

OnSpec Advantage Lithplex 1 moly grease is a superior, lithium-complex, extra-heavy duty grease. Advantage Lithplex is a high temperature, extreme pressure (EP) grease designed to meet the demands of the most severe and hostile industrial and off-highway applications and conditions. It provides excellent wear protection for sliding and shock-load conditions.

Why do we take oil samples from the earthmoving equipment?

Oil samples that Techenomics take on your site are sent to our laboratories for comprehensive oil and lubrication analysis. This testing of the oil’s condition reveals the nature and source of any contamination that could compromise equipment. Once the contamination is removed, lubricants work more efficiently resulting in reduced maintenance costs.

Can oil analysis from a site sample tell you if the engine is on its way out?

Yes. Techenomics have a range of different oil analysis tests that can indicate a failure in equipment is likely.

A Spectrometer is used to detect the presence in lubricants of fine metal particles, additives and contaminants (dirt and water ingress).

FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared) test detects soot (excess carbon particles due to incomplete combustion), and oxidation (mainly due heat, water and air).

A Flash test detects dilution by fuel. This part of oil analysis is very important for an excess amount of fuel in engine oil could lead to an explosion.

What can oil analysis from a site sample reveal?

Oil and lubrication analysis from site samples reveal important issues such as the presence of contaminants (including fine metal particles due to wear), viscosity (which determines oil grade), fuel dilution, and additive levels.

Oil analysis also reveals the TBN (Total Base Number) that indicates how much and how many additives remain in used lubricants. (Additives are used to prevent corrosion.)

Oil analysis also provides the TAN (Total Acid Number) that is an indication of oxidation level.

Why is 680 Gear Oil used in shovels?

OnSpec Gear Oils are used as lubricants for spur, helical, bevel and worm gears that operate under heavy and/or shock load conditions. They are also used for a variety of industrial and marine applications.

What is the difference between OGL and Advantage?

OGL is used for open gears. Advantage is used for bearings, and plain-bearing, couplings, heavily loaded joints and pin plus gears.
